Teddy Bear
Hannah and Aaliyah, two college students from Boston, couldn't help but feel a mysterious air of apprehension when they stumbled across their new guest bedroom in the large apartment near campus. Despite its spaciousness and abundant natural light, something about it left them feeling uneasy - so much that neither wanted to live there! Instead opting for one of the other bedrooms closer together as roommates; accepting only fate or guests into what became known between them simply by shuddersome reference: 'the room'.
Hannah had never been away from home before. So she brought a stuffed animal with her, her favorite toy from her childhood. It was big pink rabbit that she kept on her bed. One day, Hannah came back from college and the rabbit was gone. She asked Aaliyah if she had seen it. Aaliyah said no. Hannah looked all over the apartment, but she couldn’t find it.
A week later, the landlord who owned the house came by to check in with the girls.
“Is everything ok?” the landlord asked.
“Sure, great,” Aaliyah said, “But that room at the end of the hall is kind of weird.”
As the landlord sadly recounted his story, they paused to reflect on the tragedy that had ensued in this very bedroom years prior. A family taken too soon - a young boy left with no loving parents or home after an intruder broke into their house and brutally killed them all but himself. The poor child took refuge in his room, clutching onto a beloved stuffed animal for comfort before succumbing to death at such tender age; frozen in time forever cuddled with it as if being embraced by its softness would keep him safe from harm's way.
Hannah gasped. She ran to the third bedroom and looked in the closet. There was her rabbit!
Hannah whispered, “Don’t be scared. We won’t hurt you. You are safe now.” Suddenly the weird feeling disappeared. Hannah smiled and took her rabbit. Sometimes, the rabbit still disappears but now Hannah knows where it is and who has it.
